Ruben Amorim has given Manchester United's players the warning they needed vs Athletic Bilbao
When speaking to the media at Carrington yesterday lunchtime, Ruben Amorim was asked if he knows "which Manchester United will turn up" against Athletic Bilbao at Old Trafford tonight.
Amorim had just finished explaining how he believes his side will have to get themselves on the scoresheet if they are to give themselves the best possible chance of progressing to a third Europa League final in eight years, despite taking a 3-0 lead into the second leg of their semi-final showdown with the Spanish outfit.
United pulled clear of Athletic in a 15-minute first half blitz at the San Mames Stadium last week thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes (2) and Casemiro.
But Amorim is adamant his side will have to score to give themselves the best possible chance of returning to the San Mames Stadium for the final later this month.
He said: "We have to face the game as one more game. I feel that we need to score to go to the next round. That is clearly the way we are going to face the game.
"We use some image of Brentford: we are near the draw but we suffer a goal and suffer another goal, quite fast. That can happen, that happened four times here in Manchester United.
"So we know we will have to suffer a little bit to go to the final, and we are ready to suffer and we need to be better in the small details in these games."
Amorim has often warned his players throughout his tenure that they will have to "suffer" in order to achieve their respective goals, with his warning on Wednesday a reminder that anything can happen.
