Ruben Amorim could unleash a new Manchester United partnership vs Athletic Bilbao
Ruben Amorim would be within his rights to name an unchanged team from last week's 3-0 Europa League semi-final first leg win over Athletic Bilbao for tonight's second leg at Old Trafford.
The Manchester United head coach watched his side secure a commanding lead in the tie in the Basque Country, with goals from Bruno Fernandes (2) and Casemiro firing United into a position nobody thought was possible at kick-off.
Despite navigating their way to the semi-finals with an unbeaten record in Europe this season, United were by no means favourites for this tie. Athletic boast the best defence in La Liga this season, had lost just twice at home across all competitions this term and had won each of their first six home games in the Europa League.
Although United had to withstand plenty of early pressure, Casemiro's opener settled them down and from that moment onwards the Bilbao floodgates opened. However, despite taking a 3-0 lead into tonight's game, plenty of United fans will arrive at Old Trafford feeling jittery.
If the Portuguese chief deploys the same XI as the one that started in Bilbao, he must be confident they will deliver the goods again and finish the job.
With Matthijs de Ligt ruled out and Ayden Heaven still sidelined, Amorim's biggest decision is set to come in central-defence. Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Victor Lindelof started in the back-three last week and all were rested from the start at Brentford at the weekend, indicating they could reclaim their places this evening.
Lindelof is set to leave Old Trafford at the end of this season and the prospect of him bowing out by helping United reach the Europa League final would be a fine way to sign off. However, Amad's recent return from injury may just tempt
