Ruben Amorim handed first nightmare Manchester United scenario immediately

Starting a new job, most of us would hope for a period of settling in time especially in a role as demanding as Ruben Amorim's will be at Manchester United.

Sadly for the Portuguese head coach, he will not be afforded this luxury thanks to some awful scheduling from the Premier League and EFL. United have been handed just one day to recover for their Premier League clash at home to AFC Bournemouth after the date for their Carabao Cup quarter-final tie was confirmed.

The Reds will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the last eight of the competition after beating Barnsley and Leicester City in the previous rounds. On Wednesday, United confirmed they will be facing Spurs on Thursday, December 19 at 8pm.

The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event with the other three ties - Arsenal vs Crystal Palace, Newcastle United vs Brentford and Southampton vs Liverpool - taking place a day earlier on Wednesday, December 18. Sadly for United, this means they will face Spurs on the Thursday before taking on Bournemouth on the Saturday.

Such a tight turnaround for the players would be an issue at the best of times considering the usual etiquette for Thursday games. Normally when the Reds have Europa League duties, they play on Thursday and Sunday to allow players extra time to recover.

However, the two games in three days run will come after five matches already in December including a gruelling battle with Manchester City. There has been no word as of yet that the Bournemouth game will be moved to Sunday, December 22.
