Ruben Amorim faces 'awkward' Manchester United link-up after mocking Bruno Fernandes on TV

Ruben Amorim has already had a playful dig at Bruno Fernandes ahead of his arrival at Old Trafford. Although the Manchester United captain had left Sporting CP before his new head coach took over there, they will now finally link-up after November's impending international break.

After a resounding 5-2 win over Leicester City and a draw with Chelsea following Erik ten Hag's sacking, there's considerable excitement for Amorim's tenure. Since taking the helm at the José Alvalade Stadium - back in 2020 - the Portuguese tactician has established an impressive reputation.

During a brief period as a pundit, he and his colleagues teased Fernandes about a hilarious wardrobe 'blunder'. At the time the midfielder, while still a Sporting player, attended the Estoril Open tennis tournament in denim shorts that violated the event's dress code.

As a Portugal international with a significant profile in his home country, Fernandes is anticipated to thrive under his compatriot's leadership. After Sunday afternoon's 1-1 draw vs Chelsea, the United star spoke highly of Amorim.

"I'm a big fan of Sporting and watch a lot of their games," the 30-year-old star said. "Ruben Amorim brought the excitement back to the club - it was a little bit split when he came [to Sporting]. He transformed everything and brought everyone together."
