Ruben Amorim can unleash a new Manchester United partnership in pre-season
Manchester United will get their pre-season campaign up and running when they face Leeds United in their opening friendly in Stockholm in just over a week's time.
The clash with the Whites will mark the first of five warm up matches head coach Ruben Amorim will oversee ahead of the season opener against Arsenal at Old Trafford on August 17.
United have made two first-team signings so far this summer, drafting in Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon. The former, who arrived from Wolves after his £62.5million release clause was triggered, was a top target for Amorim and will become a staple in his first-choice starting XI.
A specialist playmaker, Cunha is poised to become United's chief left-sided No.10. It means Bruno Fernandes is set to move into midfield.
Cunha, 26, scored 17 goals in all competitions for Wolves last season, netting 15 of those in the Premier League. He has a proven record in the division and that level of pedigree is something United are targeting in this summer's window.
With the width in Amorim's 3-4-2-1 formation being provided by the wing-backs, Cunha will be expected to operate in central areas and get as close to Rasmus Hojlund, or whoever else may end up spearheading United's attack, in support.
Playing in the left channel, albeit tucked in, Cunha will find himself having to develop a rapport with Patrick Dorgu. The Dane arrived at Old Trafford from Lecce earlier this year and will be hoping to kick on after a first pre-season at United.
