Royal AM keep Confederation Cup dream alive, sets up clash with Zambia giants
DStv Premiership outfit Royal AM are through to the final preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup after a 2-0 victory over Mbabane Highlanders at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday.
Elias Pelembe and Ruzaigh Gamildien netted for the hosts, who advanced 2-0 on aggregate following a goalless draw in the first leg played in Eswatini last week.
Abram Nteo took charge of Royal AM, with co-head coach Khabo Zondo ineligible to take his seat on the touchline due to not having the required CAF coaching license.
Pelembe broke the deadlock in the tie just before the half-time interval to put the home team at ease in their maiden continental campaign.
The visitors were a threat in the second half as they looked to get back into the contest, but Gamildien bagged his second goal of the season to put the hosts through to the next round.
The South African outfit will now take on Zambian side ZESCO United in the second preliminary round, with the first-leg set to be played early in October.
