Caitlyn Jenner joins W Series with brand new racing team for 2022

W Series has introduced a new racing team for the 2022 season, owned by television personality and Olympic gold medallist Caitlyn Jenner.

The decathlon champion, who was hailed as the ‘world’s greatest athlete’ by Time magazine, will oversee the running of the new Jenner Racing team.

Jenner’s love for motorsport runs deep and she even enjoyed a career stint as a racing driver following her success at the Olympics.

After winning gold at the 1976 Games in Montreal, the ex-athletics star swapped her spikes for a racing helmet.

Jenner won the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race at the Long Beach Grand Prix on two occasions in 1979 and 1982 before winning her first IMSA Camel GT Championship race in the 12 Hours of Sebring endurance event.

During her career with the GT series, Jenner made a total of 57 starts and finished as runner-up in the 1986 championship.

As the Team Principal of Jenner Racing, the sports icon will be looking at cementing decisions on the driver lineup, car livery and the acquisition of sponsors in the coming weeks.

Jenner has also stressed her commitment to promoting women in sport as a whole, particularly focusing the spotlight on the talent in women’s motorsport.

“As a believer in fair competition, a lover of motor racing, and a supporter of all women in sport from the grassroots to elite level, W Series ticks every box for me and is a fusion of the different aspects of my career,” she said on her decision to join the series.

Jenner praised W Series for “changing the face of motorsport” and aims to help continue to provide young girls and women “the chance to succeed in roles throughout what has traditionally been a male-dominated industry.”
