Roy Keane reveals manager’s threat after he made Man Utd decision

Roy Keane has revealed that Kenny Dalglish threatened to track him down over the phone after he snubbed Blackburn Rovers to join Manchester United.

At the time, Keane was one of the most exciting young midfielders in Europe while playing for Nottingham Forest under Brian Clough. Dalglish, who was then at the helm at Ewood Park, believed he had signed the Irish midfielder after they had a gentleman's agreement that would see Keane join him.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson managed to sway Keane to Old Trafford, leaving the Liverpool legend spitting feathers. After his move to United was wrapped up, Keane went on holiday with some team-mates. But before he left, he received an ominous phone call from Dalglish that left him rather spooked.

While speaking onSky Bet's 'Stick to Football' podcast, Keane said: "What I should have done [after agreeing to join Manchester United] was ring Blackburn straight away, but I dragged that out. A week later I was going on holiday to Ayia Napa with a few lads from Forest and Kenny [Dalglish] rang me.

"I told Kenny that I should have got in touch with him sooner, I was a bit embarrassed, and he went mad. He said something like, 'You're a f***ing joke, nobody does this to Kenny Dalglish,' but he was right. We shook hands on the deal, and he said that inScotland, if you shake hands that's it.

"If things had been done that night [when I first agreed to join Blackburn], I would have signed for Blackburn. They have to take responsibility too.
