Roy Keane reveals Lee Carsley intel as England boss breaks silence over national anthem storm

Under-fire Lee Carsley insists he has total respect for the England national anthem after the interim boss became embroiled in a storm for admitting he won't be singing 'God Save The Queen'.

The former Republic of Ireland international revealed on Friday he won't be singing the anthem used before Three Lions encounters – the same approach he took when managing England's U21s to glory in the Euros. And he was keen to bat away further scrutiny before the game against the country he represented with distinction. Speaking to ITV, he said: "I have so much respect for both national anthems."

And Roy Keane reckons any flak is 'unfair' and reckons the man he played with at international level can silence the naysayers in a hurry by winning games. Speaking on ITV, Keane said:: "It's quite a welcome to the reality of being the manager of England. He's obviously coached a lot at underage level and done very well, but now this is senior level and particularly with England there's huge pressure, huge demands.

"Yeah, maybe it's an introduction to the demands he's going to face, but I think it is obviously unfair, of course it is, but that's the industry we're in, talking about people losing their jobs because they don't sing the national anthem. I played with Lee with Ireland. He never sung it then and it was never an issue for anybody else."
