Roy Keane gives Man City title verdict as he brands Arsenal ‘favourites’

Roy Keane is sticking with Manchester City as his pick for the Premier League title despite lauding heaps of praise on Arsenal for their form this season.

The Gunners have an eight-point lead over City although have played a game more and are yet to travel to the Etihad. That potentially title-deciding clash takes place later this month on April 26 with Arsenal having to navigate Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton beforehand.

They are now out of the Europa League while City have a Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich and an FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United to look forward to.

Despite the Blues’ intense fixture schedule, Keane believes Pep Guardiola will be clasping hands on the title in May although hailed the work done by former protege Mikel Arteta at the Emirates.

“They’re [Arsenal] in a great position, wouldn’t have thought that at the start of the season but they’ve been brilliant,” he told The Overlap. “A lot of the young players have been very consistent, they can just focus on the league. They’re definitely favourites for the title.”

However, Keane added: “I don’t think they’ll do it. I still have to fancy City but Arsenal have got themselves in a great position. You need a little bit of luck, injuries over the last few months, they’re in a great position and you have to admire them for that, can’t begrudge them.”

Keane pointed to the opponents Arsenal are due to face in the run-in after the City games, which includes fixtures with Chelsea, Newcastle and in-form Brighton.

Then comes a meeting with Nottingham Forest, who could be fighting for Premier League survival, before hosting Wolves on the final day.
