Roy Keane 'feels sorry' for Manchester United captain Harry Maguire

Roy Keane admits that he 'feels sorry' for current Manchester United captain Harry Maguire.

Maguire is currently under increasing pressure at Old Trafford with the central defender often criticised for his performances on social media. Earlier this year, Ralf Rangnick was forced to deny rumours that Maguire was to be replaced by Cristiano Ronaldo as captain of the club.

During the last international break some England supporters were widely condemned after Maguire's name was booed during a friendly with Ivory Coast at Wembley Stadium. Keane has also been known to criticise the former Leicester City man but while discussing Maguire on Sport Bible's Agree to Disagree with Jamie Carragher, he expressed sympathy for Maguire's plight.

He explained: "I feel sorry for Maguire. Imagine if I went into Manchester United in 2021 and I walk in and they go 'you're the captain', you'd be thinking 'that doesn't say much about the rest of the group'. Surely somebody has got to be at the club a number of years?"

When asked by Carragher who should be the captain at United, Keane struggled for a response.

"At United now?" He sighed. "The fact that we have got to discuss or think about it is not good.

"It is not good. It is not good that Maguire has got it because he is only new to the club himself a couple of years ago and he's getting used to it but all of a sudden he's got that extra responsibility when he was trying to find his feet."
