Roy Keane and Paul Scholes agree on Erik ten Hag's January transfer priority at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag might be planning for a quiet January transfer window but two former Manchester United stars have urged the Dutchman to address his side's goalscoring issues.

Goals have long been a problem for Ten Hag and the Dutchman made signing a No.9 a priority for United over the summer. Harry Kane was the prime target but Tottenham had no intention of selling to a Premier League rival, and so Rasmus Hojlund arrived from Atalanta in a £72million deal.

But the 20-year-old has never been considered a prolific scorer and is yet to find the net in 13 league appearances. United have continued to struggle in front of goal, scoring just 18 times in 17 Premier League appearances - the sixth-worst record and only one better than Luton Town.

It is an obvious issue at United and one Roy Keane identified ahead of Sunday's 0-0 draw at Liverpool - a hard-fought point but one in which Hojlund missed the best chance of the game.

"We get stats thrown at us every single week, they’re never good stats to look at but they have to turn up as a team," Keane told Sky Sports. "There just seems to be an issue with Man United - whether it be injuries or whatever and people try to look for answers outside of the club.

"Sometimes you have to look at what’s in the dressing room and that’s where they have to find the answers. I can’t believe for one second they’ll come here and win today, the biggest worry for me is the lack of goals. The lack of goals from this team, it’s a real problem."
