Round-by-round: Canelo Alvarez dominates Jaime Munguia, retains titles - ESPN

Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez retained his four belts by unanimous decision over Jaime Munguia Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs), 33, is 10-1 fighting on Cinco de Mayo weekend. His only loss was against Dmitry Bivol on May 7, 2022, challenging for the WBA light heavyweight title. This was Alvarez's fourth defense of the WBC, WBO, IBF and WBA super middleweight titles. With the victory, he extended his record for most successful undisputed title defenses in the four-belt era with four.

Munguia (43-1, 34 KOs), 27, was no match for Alvarez. He made it a fight early, but in the end, it was all Alvarez. This was Munguia's first loss of his professional career. Entering the fight, Munguia had won eight of his past 10 bouts by stoppage, including a ninth-round TKO over John Ryder in January.

This was also the first time two fighters born in Mexico competed for an undisputed championship, and the first super middleweight title fight featuring two fighters born in Mexico. There has never been a world title fight featuring two Mexican-born fighters above 160 pounds.
