Rossiter crowned WNL Player of the Month
Ciara Rossiter, a central figure in Wexford's surge to the top of the WNL table, has been rewarded with the Player of the Month award for August/September.
The Slaneysiders have gone four points clear at the top of the table, racking up seven wins on the trot since mid-July, as they seek to claim a first league title since 2018.
The 26-year-old Rossiter, capped for Ireland in 2015, has been a central figure in the endeavour, rattling in four goals in her past five games.
"I certainly didn't expect it. I didn't expect to be nominated. I am very shocked that I won it to be honest," Rossiter told the SSE Airtricity League youtube channel. "I scored four goals in the last five games. I don't really know how that happened because at the start of the season, I couldn't score at all! The run of good form is down to our training sessions. We've been working on our finishing in training.
"After the mid-season break, we thought the title race had gone out a touch. I think we were 11 points behind Shelbourne at one stage. There's still four massive games to go."
Leanne Sheill, SSE Airtricity Marketing Manager, said: "Congratulations to Ciara Rossiter on being named the SSE Airtricity Women's National League Player of the Month for August/September. She has been instrumental in Wexford Youths's recent run of form which has incredibly seen them reach the top of the league.
