Ross Wilson earns rave Rangers review as Stuart Gibson insists he 'knocked it out the park' with sales

Rangers investor Stuart Gibson insists sporting director Ross Wilson is doing a “brilliant job”, insisting the Ibrox recruitment chief “knocked it the park” with the sales of Calvin Bassey to Ajax and Joe Aribo to Southampton.

Wilson come under a savage attack by one shareholder at the club’s AGM last year with the supporter earning a huge round of applause for heavy criticism of his record in the job and he continues to come under fire from the fans over his transfers. Fans unveiled a banner during the weekend win over Kilmarnock with Wilson's face, along with managing director Stewart Robertson, in a circle with a strike through it.

But Paisley-born Gibson, the third largest single shareholder in the club, defended Wilson in a wide-ranging interview with This Is Ibrox podcast. He said: “Ross Wilson is doing a brilliant job. He doesn’t have ample resources to work with but he knocked it out the park with Bassey and Joe Aribo. They are massive home runs for the club. “There’s some signings made last summer we were unlucky with injuries and some of the players have yet to make their mark and get to know the fans but Ross Wilson has done an excellent job and continues to do so. I know in the dying days of Gio’s managerial reign with Rangers he was getting a lot of flak and it was extremely unfair.”
