Ross McCrorie socks it to West Ham as ex Aberdeen star makes bizarre teammates confession

Ross McCrorie has gone from a disaster at Darvel to wiping out West Ham.

The gutsy Scot made his long-awaited first start for Bristol City and helped them to dump out the Premier League side in Wednesday’s FA Cup replay. The best things really do come to those who wait. It was a dream come true as McCrorie had to wait seven long, frustrating months to kick off a game for the Robins after picking up a bone infection in pre-season and needing surgery.

At one stage, he was in so much agony, he had to ask his team-mates to literally pull his socks up. It was also the defender’s first appearance in a knockout competition since last January when Aberdeen were left red-faced in the Scottish Cup by minnows Darvel. "It has gone from one extreme to the other losing to Darvel and then beating West Ham in the FA Cup,” McCrorie told Record Sport.

“It has to be right up there, our FA Cup win, especially when you look at that West Ham team. Don’t forget, they are also the Europa Conference League holders. They are one of the top teams in the Premier League and their squad is littered with quality.

“It is definitely up there in one-off results, also when you factor it was my first start for the club and the circumstances with me being out for six months. I didn’t expect to be back until about March but I managed to get myself up and running.

“It is a really sweet moment and also a massive result for the club. It was great to be back but the performance from the whole team was fantastic. We dug deep and we were class to a man.”
