Ross Doohan permanent Celtic transfer exit confirmed as 'big factor' behind EFL switch revealed

Ross Doohan has opened up on his Celtic exit after joining Tranmere Rovers on a permanent deal.

Former Dundee United boss Mikey Mellon - who is charge at Prenton Park - has swooped to bring in the 24-year-old on a two-year deal with the club holding the option to extend for a further campaign. He spent time on loan at the English club last season kept 21 clean sheets in League Two, the joint best in the division.

Doohan had been at Celtic since 2016 and enjoyed various loan spells away from the club as he gained vital top team experience. He had stints at the likes of Greenock Morton, Ayr United, Ross County and Dundee United before his time at Tranmere Rovers. The stopper has hailed his permanent move as a 'great step' in his career as he opened up on the major factor behind his decision to turn his loan agreement into a permanent stay. He told Tranmere's official website : “I’m really pleased to get it all sorted now. I really enjoyed it here last season so I feel this is a great step in my career.”

“I know how the club works and the stature of it with the training facilities, the stadium and the fan base. Having a great relationship with the gaffer and with Joe Murphy was another big factor for me.

“I didn’t take much convincing at all, as soon as I heard that there was interest I wanted to come back. I can’t wait to get going again.”

Manager Micky Mellon added: “We’re delighted to bring Ross in permanently. He’s a fantastic young goalkeeper and someone who we know very well.

“We know what qualities he can bring to the group and we believe that he can keep improving and developing here with us. We’re really looking forward to working with him again.”
