Rory Wilson 'set to' end Aston Villa nightmare as Rangers made to sweat over mega profit

Rory Wilson could see his time at Aston Villa come to an abrupt end amid an escalating contract standoff, according to reports.

Wilson joined the Villa academy from Rangers in summer 2022 and has rapidly risen through the ranks and has been viewed as a top Premier League prospect having impressed for Villa’s under-18s and under-21 - with the young Scot scoring 36 times in 53 appearances for the youth sides. However, while many had expected him to be on the brink of a breakthrough to Unai Emery's first-team plans.

But The Athletic report that the 18-year-old has been left in a nightmare scenario having failed to agree new terms with the club. Wilson is approaching the final year of his contract at Villa Park and has reportedly turned down various offers of a five-year-deal with "weekly salary offers reaching the five-figure mark and comfortably above" for the rising star.

It's claimed the Birmingham side have told the player and his representatives that they "will not meet salary expectations that are more than double the best-paid player in the academy." It is now claimed that Wilson could leave in January with the player unhappy at the lack of chances under Emery - while the club are unwilling to push him into the Premier League plans without signing a new deal.

It could leave Rangers counting the cost of a depleting windfall from the sale of the youngster. Had he penned a bumper new deal and left Villa Park after making his mark in England's top flight a hefty payday could have been on it's way to Glasgow if he left the club.
