Rory Wilson 'close' to Rangers exit as Steven Gerrard and Aston Villa set to beat EPL rivals

Rangers youngster Rory Wilson appears set to leave the club – with Aston Villa tipped to beat Premier League rivals to his signature.

The striker, who has turned out in the B team representing Gers in the Lowland League and in the UEFA Youth league this season, is wanted by a host of English clubs.

Manchester United and Manchester City were both credited with an interest along with Newcastle and Leeds in the 16-year-old with 40 goals at youth level.

A host of scouts attended the Scotland Under-17s match against Germany last week - following on from a heroic double against the Czech Republic - and the Scottish Sun claim Aston Villa are close to securing a move.

Wilson has been offered a professional deal at Ibrox but the club are "resigned" to losing their bright prospect.

And it's former manager Steven Gerrard who could take him across the border.

Rangers will be due a compensation fee, said to be around £300,000, if Wilson leaves.

He's set to be the latest in a number of talented kids tempted down south with Celtic's Ben Doak also close to a move to Liverpool.
