Rory McIlroy roars back into contention with stunning 63 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic

Rory McIlroy produced a stunning third-round 63 to race back into contention at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

The defending champion was an early starter on Saturday and started the day 10 shots behind leader American Cameron Young, but he had moved into the lead shortly after he signed his scorecard as Young dropped three shots in two holes, the seventh and eighth.

Rounds of 71 and 70 seemed to indicate that McIlroy was heading into the weekend just looking for a high finish, but he is now back in contention to retain his trophy.

The Holywood golfer started with a birdie, coming out of the rough and rolling up pin side for a close-range putt, and he would pick up further shots at the third, seventh, eighth and ninth holes to go out in 30.
