Rory McIlroy gutted his 'nemesis' cost him at BMW PGA Championship but targets strong finish to roar into Ryder Cup

Rory McIlroy will get back from a stag do in Mykonos to fix small issues ahead of the Ryder Cup.

The World No.2 heads to Greece in good spirits after firing back to form over the Wentworth weekend. McIlroy just scrambled into the final two rounds on the cut mark, but blasted 67 and 65 to be 12-under over the last 36 holes. The Northern Irishman heads out for his pal’s bash on the island before a seventh Ryder appearance in Rome. McIlroy says he doesn’t have all guns blazing, but has time to fine-tune the game for the clash with the United States.

McIlroy explained: “To go from making the cut on the number to finishing in the Top 10, it’s a very solid two days. Making the weekend gave me the opportunity to go out, shoot a couple of good scores and feel a bit better about where my game is and that’s what I’ve done.

“There’s a couple of things to work on to try and iron a couple of the misses out of my game. We are all going to hit bad shots from time to time. That’s natural and inevitable. I’m not far away. It would be nice to go to Rome without those misses, but I’ve still got plenty of time.

“I don’t want to get too excited, there’s still nearly two weeks to go before we tee it up on the Friday of The Ryder Cup. I’ll get some really good work in on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday before heading to Rome, which will be great.

“Once we get there, we still have four days of practice, so I’ll certainly be chomping at the bit to get started. We get there Monday afternoon, there’s a lot of waiting and a lot of stuff going on and to me it’s about conserving your energy.

“We’ve already played an 18-hole practice round and we might play another early in the week, but to me, you conserve your energy as best you can,
