Rookies top MotoGP 2022 crash list

While MotoGP rookie Darryn Binder endured the most trips through the gravel in 2022, Britain’s Jake Dixon made the Moto2 hit list in joint third.

As MotoGP releases its list of serial offenders for the 2022 season, Binder claimed the most crashes across all three classes, with 27 falls registered across his maiden year in the premier class. Yamaha Master Camp’s Keminth Kubo set the target in Moto2 just two behind the South African, with fellow VR46 rider Marco Bezzecchi rounding out the overall top three after a total of 23.

The Italian flavour continued with Elia Bartolini, heading the Moto3 standings, and Niccolo Antonelli both suffering 22 spills. Honda’s woes were highlighted as both outgoing riders Pol Espargaro and Alex Marquez equalled 21 crashes to complete the MotoGP tally while Dixon and Aron Canet tied with Moto3’s Kaito Toba on 20 falls apiece.

Unsurprisingly - thanks in no small part to the carnage of race day in the intermediate class - Autodromo Internacional do Algarve was the scene of the most downfalls as the Portimao venue witnessed 105 crashes across the weekend. Usual suspect, Le Mans, and Misano were the next closest offenders having amassed 87 and 71 accidents respectively and of the total 1106 crashes across 2022, 346 occurred when it counted most, on race day.
