Ronny Deila facing sack as ex Celtic boss set to pay price for wretched Club Brugge run

Former Celtic boss Ronny Deila is set to be sacked by Club Brugge after going down to 2-1 to Sint-Truiden on Sunday.

The Norwegian had been under mounting pressure and reports in Belgium now say that the Brugge board, led by club chairman Bart Verhaeghe, have made the decision to pull the trigger. Deila only made the switch to Club Brugge last summer in a controversial departure from Jupiler Pro League rivals Standard Liege.

But it has gone horribly wrong for the 48-year-old, who won two Scottish Premiership titles with the Hoops, after they finished a whopping 19 points behind leaders Union St Gilloise in the regular Belgian season, albeit they are in the Europa Conference League quarter finals where they are due to face Greek side PAOK. But that won't be enough to save him and Belgian media outlet Nieuwsblad say that “it is expected Deila will be fired” with Club Brugge youth academy coach Nicky Hayen reportedly being lined up as an interim replacement.

Club Brugge took the lead through Spaniard Ferran Jutgla but American striker Kahveh Zahiroleslam levelled and Aboubakary Koita netted the winner for Sint-Truiden. Deila reflected on the defeat to Sint-Truiden, saying: “We played really well in the first half. We were the best team. We created chances and scored a goal. We could have had more. There was that penalty situation. That could have changed the course of the match.”
