Romero, Buendia, Martinez and Lo Celso in wasted trip to South America
Tottenham defender Cristian Romero is among four Premier League players who have had a wasted trip to South America in the hope of playing for Argentina.
The quartet - with Emi Buendia, Emi Martinez and Giovani Lo Celso also among the pack - were banned for two games for not following international match protocols regarding red-list countries amid the controversially abandoned World Cup qualifier against Brazil in September.
All four players were banned for two games but were nonetheless selected for international duty by Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni.
Their bans were appealed in the hope they'd be shortened to just one game - which was Friday's Qatar World Cup qualifying victory against Venezuela.

But the appeal has been rejected by FIFA, meaning all four players have travelled to South America without being available for selection.
As such, the players have returned to Europe and Romero is expected to train at Tottenham's Enfield HQ on Tuesday.
