Romane Miradoli pips resurgent Mikaela Shiffrin to win first Super G Alpine Ski World Cup in Lenzerheide
Romane Miradoli sealed a shock first Super G Alpine Ski World Cup victory at a star-studded Lenzerheide event on Saturday (5 February).
With tennis legend and local resident Roger Federer looking on, the Frenchwoman finished the course in 1.19.87, just 0.38 quicker than a resurgent Mikaela Shiffrin in second. The USA double Olympic champion looked to be near her best again after a difficult Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics saw her leave without a medal.
Miradoli's victory ends a long wait for France, who's last female Super G World Cup winner was Carole Montillet in 2004.
Local hero Lara Gut-Behrami completed the podium in Switzerland, +0.88 off Miradoli's time to take third place.
Elsewhere, Federica Brignone took sixth place and to become the first Italian women ever to win the Super G overall World Cup title.
Petra Vlhova finished back in ninth, with snowboard Olympic champion Ester Ledecka in 11th.
Shiffrin retains the overall World Cup lead, but Vlhova is just 60 points behind with seven races to go.
