Roman Abramovich currently has a net worth of $12.7billion (£9.5billion), with Chelsea having secured £175m in transfer sales from academy graduates.
Having overseen a 2003 takeover of the west London club, the Russian billionaire has been a key figure behind the scenes as the Blues have enjoyed an unprecedented period of success.
Due to his considerable investment at Stamford Bridge and shrewd backroom appointments, Chelsea have established themselves as a powerhouse on both the domestic and European footballing landscapes.
Meanwhile, the Blues have become big players in the transfer market with a number of sales including that of Tammy Abraham standing out since 2015.
Despite that, Abramovich made the shock decision to relinquish the care and stewardship of the club on Saturday evening amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
He confirmed his intentions in a short statement published on the club’s website - leaving supporters with plenty of questions over what that could mean regarding his ownership of Chelsea in the future.
As it stands, the Russian remains as the club’s owner but has just taken a step back from the day-to-day operations regarding the Blues - although where that leaves future investment remains to be seen.
