Roman Abramovich disqualified from owning Chelsea by Premier League
Roman Abramovich has been disqualified from owning Chelsea by Premier League.
A statement read: ‘Following the imposition of sanctions by the UK Government, the Premier League Board has disqualified Roman Abramovich as a Director of Chelsea Football Club.
‘The Board’s decision does not impact on the club’s ability to train and play its fixtures, as set out under the terms of a licence issued by the Government which expires on 31 May 2022.’
Abramovich’s disqualification came littel over 48 hours after Boris Johnson’s administration sanctioned the Russian oligarch amid his historic ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin who continues to wage war on Ukraine.
The 55-year-old has subsequently been denied the chance to make a quickfire sale of the west London club having previously been hoping to net up to £4billion.
