Roger Federer plots long-awaited tennis return as he confirms Basel appearance
Federer has not played since Wimbledon last year, and that was only his fifth tournament in 18 months at the time.
Federer, 40, has struggled with knee surgery since the 2020 Australian Open.
That appeared to be successful, and he made his comeback in Doha in March 2021. He followed that with a mini clay season, playing Geneva and the French Open before moving onto his favoured grass.
Following that defeat, though, Federer revealed he required a third operation on his knee.
He is also expected to play the Laver Cup at the O2 in September.
