Rodri setting new standard at Luton would make Man City think again

Manchester City can book a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup when they take on Luton Town.

City fell behind when they travelled to Kenilworth Road in the league earlier this season but bounced back to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva. Grealish could return to the side after making the bench at Bournemouth at the weekend following a recent injury.

Pep Guardiola has spoken about how demanding the schedule is as City press ahead in three competitions and they have another important week with the Manchester derby coming on Sunday. Here are some of the talking points ahead of the FA Cup game.

If Rodri stays unbeaten on his next start for City, he will set a new record in English football with 59 consecutive games in all competitions where he has been undefeated. His part in Saturday's win at Bournemouth drew him level with Ricardo Carvalho's 58 for Chelsea.

The quality and determination from Rodri has been in evidence on countless occasions and he is the best in the world in his position; there is no shame in City not being able to replace that. Yet if he does start at Luton it will illustrate how sparse the cover for him remains.

Rodri stressed to coaches at the beginning of the season that he could not maintain his workload, and that has been listened to in the fact that there are three players with more minutes than him (Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, and Ederson). There is no getting away from how important he remains though, and it would be a surprise if he doesn't get a chance at the record at Luton.
