Rodri's PFA Team of the Year snub continues to shine light on incredible Man City season

Every Manchester City supporter has been infinitely impressed by the rise of Rodri this season, but that has not been mirrored by his fellow professionals.

The Spaniard has - once again - been snubbed for an award, with Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and his fellow countryman Thiago Alcantara taking up the midfield slots in the PFA Team of the Year.

It goes without saying that Rodri's meteoric rise has seen him emerge as one of the league's finest defensive midfielders this season. In over 2800 minutes of Premier League football, he scored seven goals, provided two assists and averaged 2.2 tackles per 90 minutes.

No goal was more crucial than his magnificent equaliser against Aston Villa on the final day of the campaign. Despite Ilkay Gundogan stealing the headlines, Rodri's composed finish to level the scores was the boost City needed to trigger a remarkable five-minute comeback.

Throughout the season, he has popped up with crucial moment after crucial moment. In the dying stages of a 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield, Rodri denied what looked like a certain goal when he expertly blocked Fabinho from tapping into an empty goal.

Fast-forward two months, the 25-year-old scored a memorable 93rd-minute winner against Arsenal at the Emirates to maintain City's dominant winning streak and push them even further towards back-to-back Premier League titles.

It's no coincidence that the Blues seem to struggle when Rodri's out of the side. His calm presence on the ball and ability to manoeuvre his big frame to shrug off the opposition's press is perhaps unmatched in European football.
