Rodgers worse fears confirmed as Leicester ace’s decision spurs Liverpool, Man Utd into action

Liverpool and Manchester United have been put on high alert after a trusted source revealed Youri Tielemans will not extend his Leicester City deal.

The 24-year-old has been with the Foxes since January 2019 when he penned a six-month loan deal from Monaco. The East Midlanders wasted little time in handing him permanent terms, with the Belgium international signing a four-year deal. And the former Anderlecht  ace has gone from strength to strength at King Power Stadium.

He has bagged 23 goals from 135 appearances in all competitions. The most memorable was the superb strike against Chelsea that settled last season’s FA Cup in Leicester’s favour.

The talented midfielder has notched 16 Premier League goals and 17 assists from 105 appearances and is clearly a wanted man. Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle United were all linked earlier this week.

But Manchester United and Liverpool are also thought to hold an interest in the schemer. And it was reported on Thursday that the Foxes might accept below his market value to avoid losing him for nothing.

He will fall out of contract in the summer of 2023. And Brendan Rodgers is eager for his star man to extend his stay.

However, rumours persist that Tielemans has his eyes on a move away. And transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to give an update on the situation.

He tweeted: “I’ve been told Youri Tielemans will NOT extend his contract with Leicester. New deal bid has been turned down – current one expires in 2023.

“Of course Youri will be professional, he’s focused on Leicester. Many top clubs want him for June.”

Leicester slapped a price tag of around £50m on the Belgian’s head. That seemed a realistic valuation given his talent and current prices being paid for
