Rod Petrie suffers UEFA ExCo embarrassment as SFA president lands fewest votes

Rod Petrie has failed to land a seat on the UEFA Executive Committee after receiving the fewest votes of all candidates.

The former Hibs chief was among the final 11 candidates ahead of today’s vote at the 47th Ordinary UEFA Congress in Portugal, who were vying for the seven spots available. However, the Scottish FA president came dead last in the voting, receiving just 15 in the first ballot. A majority of 28 is needed to be elected. Petrie finished behind Lise Klaveness of Norway, who was seeking to become the first woman elected to the ExCo ahead of a male candidate.

There will be UK representation however, as Laura McAllister of the Welsh FA was elected to the reserved female role. Petrie has been SFA president since 2019, although was temporarily replaced by Mike Mulraney in 2020 due to a health score, but was eventually able to return to his Hampden hotseat.

He left Easter Road in the summer of 2019 after helping to facilitate the sale of the club to the late Ron Gordon. Petrie ran the Hibees as chairman and chief executive under previous owner Sir Tom Farmer for over two decades.

The 47th Ordinary UEFA Congress elected the following candidates for seven positions on the UEFA Executive Committee for a four-year term
