Rochdale Road closed after two police officers injured following crash

A major road in north Manchester has been closed in both directions after a crash involving an unmarked police car. Greater Manchester Police says two officers have suffered injuries following the smash on the A664 Rochdale Road, in Blackley.

The police car had been doing a three-point turn when the crash, also involving a white Mercedes A-Class, took place. One officer has been taken to hospital.

Rochdale Road remains closed between Middleton Old Road and Cambridge Road this morning (May 29). It's understood the road is set to be closed for a number of hours.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area this rush hour. An update on Inrix stated that there is heavy traffic approaching the scene.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Shortly after 5.35am this morning (Wednesday, May 29), two fire engines from Blackley and Phillips Park, and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton-under-Lyne, were called to attend a road traffic collision involving two cars on Rochdale Road, Manchester. Crews arrived quickly and extricated one casualty from a vehicle.

"The casualty was then transferred into the care of North West Ambulance Service and taken to hospital. Firefighters departed after approximately one hour and 40 minutes in attendance but a road closure remains in place.”
