Robinson bags brace as Drogheda ease past Students

Kyle Robinson's wondergoal lit up what was otherwise a routine victory for Drogheda United as bottom side UCD went down at Weavers Park.

The striker had already scored his third goal in three games to further endear himself to the home faithful. An academy product, his return to the club during the summer was a popular move.

His second goal was a thing of supreme skill and execution – a first-time volley from 45 yards that flew into the top corner of Lorcan Healy’s net. Notwithstanding the goalkeeper was off his line, it was nevertheless a brilliant, memorable strike.

Drogheda are now in the midst of their best home run as a Premier Division team in six years. UCD meanwhile are without an away league win in 15 games and just two of those have earned points.

It was perhaps no surprise Drogheda made such light work of Andy Myler’s youngsters but United were without key attackers Darragh Markey and Dayle Rooney.

Markey’s absence was especially felt in the first half as home fans at times aired their frustration towards United’s attacking efforts.

Full debutant Warren Davis had gone close, his brilliant touch taking Conor Kane’s cross into his stride, but his strike was narrowly off-target.

At the other end, Danu Kinsella Bishop was prevented by a point-blank Andrew Wogan save. Wogan, who this week started sixth year at school, denied the striker again after the break.

Robinson’s opener was a product of a slick move. After Luke Heeney’s interception, Davis and Adam Foley worked the ball up field before the latter found the striker. He worked the ball onto his left foot and shot past Healy.
