Roberto Mancini breaks silence on Man City Premier League charges

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini says nobody has been in contact with him regarding the Premier League charges his old employers are faced with.

City were last month hit with charges relating to numerous allegations of financial breaches made between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons. They included allegations that City had not 'included full details of manager remuneration in its relevant contracts with its manager', between the 2009/10 and 2012/13 seasons.

This stretches through the time Mancini was manager and City won the Premier League, FA Cup and Community Shield. Now Italy's head coach, the 58-year-old said he was not expecting anyone to be in touch with him regarding the charges against the Blues.

"No, I haven’t been contacted or called up by anyone. I don’t think anyone will contact me," he said. "I have paid my taxes and it’s all above board so I don’t think anyone will be in touch."

Following the charges being brought against them, City claimed that they were surprised by the Premier League's decision. A club statement said: "Manchester City Football Club is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.

"The club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all."

Five current City players could feature for the Three Lions on Thursday against Mancini's Italy side with John Stones, Kyle Walker, Kalvin
