Roberto Carlos: Real Madrid legend's greatest assists are still incredible
Legendary Brazilian full-back Roberto Carlos possessed one of the most fearsome left-footed strikes in the history of the game.
The sheer power that the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan star could generate with his left peg meant that he could threaten from free-kicks at ranges that few others could manage.
He hammered home some fabulous goals, too, including his iconic physics-defying effort against France at Le Tournoi in 1997.
Carlos, who turned 49 years old on Sunday, is rightly celebrated for his jackhammer of a left-foot, but one aspect of his career that isn’t spoken about enough is his fabulous assists record down the years.
Per Transfermarkt, Carlos racked up an impressive 122 assists during his club career – 62 of which were for Real Madrid during the Galacticos era at the club.
A compilation of Carlos’ greatest assists from his time at the Bernabeu recently went viral – and it contains some absolute corkers.
Thundering the ball in from the left flank with sensational accuracy, Carlos lays on goals for the likes of Ronaldo Nazario, Zidane, Raul and David Beckham amongst others.
Of course, the recipients have to do their bit to put the ball into the back of the net – and there are some outstanding finishes on show – but Carlos demonstrates magnificent ability while effortlessly pinging balls to his Madrid colleagues.
While Real’s Karim Benzema is in red hot form right now, he’d probably be even more prolific if Carlos was still strutting his stuff at the Bernabeu.
The highlights package really is a treat to watch and you can enjoy it for yourself below.
