Robert Lewandowski hopes to seal Barcelona move following £34m bid

Barcelona have finally made a bid for Robert Lewandowski which is worth up to £34 million (€40m).

The offer to Bayern Munich for the striker is for £30m (€35m) up front plus £4.3m (€5m) in add-ons.

Given Lewandowski is 34 in August, is going into the final year of his contract at Bayern and has more than once publicly stated his desire to leave this summer then he is hoping the offer is accepted.

The Poland international is adamant that he wants to quit Bayern and believes that, having joined on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2014, after running down his contract, and given his service to the club, that his request should be accepted.

Barcelona have made Lewandowski their main transfer target and want him to be available for their pre-season tour to the United States which begins on July 16.

It is also understood that Barcelona’s offer, with a three-year contract being tabled, matches the valuation that Bayern have placed on Lewandowski even though they insist he is not for sale. However Bayern made demand £34m without add-ons.

At the unveiling of Sadio Mané on Wednesday, after he signed from Liverpool for up to £35m, Bayern’s chief executive Oliver Kahn insisted: “The situation hasn’t changed. Robert has a contract with us for another year and we expect to see him on the first day of pre-season in July.”

Bayern board member Hasan Salihamidzic was less forthright however and it is understood that Lewandowski and his agent, Pini Zahavi, met with him and Kahn last week to discuss the move.

Bayern have questioned whether Barcelona have the finances to complete the deal but Lewandowski, who has had other offers, including bids from Premier League clubs, has made it clear he wants to join the Spanish giants.
