Robert Lewandowski brushes aside Liverpool talks to ‘agree terms’ with Euro giants

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has snubbed offers from Liverpool and Manchester City and agreed a deal with Barcelona, claims a report.

The prolific 33-year-old striker has been with Bayern since 2014 when he arrived from Borussia Dortmund. He is under contract in Bavaria until 2023, but has been linked with a move away from the club.

And now Polish source Interia Sport says the Poland striker “has agreed terms on a three-year contract” with the Catalan giants.

PSG, Manchester City and Liverpool were also interested in Lewandowski. In fact the three clubs were negotiating with the striker’s entourage.

Both Premier League clubs had been in contact the player’s agent Pini Zahavi. But Lewandowski has apparently agreed a three-year deal in Spain in what has been described as a “multi-million” deal.

There is one big problem though. The 40-goal striker remains under contract for 12 more months in Bavaria.

The report claims it is possible that Bayern will agree to release him from his contract. But that will come at a price. So Barca will also have to negotiate with the Bundesliga champions.

Alternatively Bayern could block his exit and insist he sees out his remaining season with the club.

Barcelona are after a proven No 9 to get themselves back to the top of Spanish football.

President Joan Laporta has revealed they will make up to five signings, working within a strict wage budget.

Believed by many to have been the world’s best player in the last few years, the Ballon d’Or has still evaded him.

And he may well feel a move to Barcelona could be what he needs. That could be the switch that finally sees him get recognised as the world’s best.
