Robert Helenius vs Deontay Wilder: Nordic Nightmare issues a warning

Robert Helenius has issued a strong warning to Deontay Wilder ahead of their showdown tomorrow night.

For the longest time now, fans have been waiting to see whether or not 36-year-old Deontay Wilder would opt to return to the squared circle.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ is coming off the back of consecutive defeats to bitter rival Tyson Fury, both of which came via knockout.

Alas, the veteran has never been one to give up without a fight, which is why he’s decided to get back in the ring in an attempt to prove he’s still got what it takes to become a world champion.

The punching power of Wilder has never been something that fans have questioned but seeing if he can come back and beat someone after such humbling knockout losses is a big, big talking point.

That’s especially the case given that his opponent is Robert Helenius, another tenured heavyweight who isn’t afraid to get in there and throw haymakers.

During a recent interview ahead of their meeting at the Barclays Center on Saturday, Helenius spoke about his preparations for this fight.

“We have been doing a lot of good work and explosiveness training to match up with Wilder’s technique,” he said. “The boxing technique I think I already had because I’ve been boxing for 25 years. Mainly we’ve been focusing on keeping it fast, powerful and elusive.

“I’ve been training for going all 12 rounds. I’m ready for that if that happens, but it’s a heavyweight event and anything can happen.

“I think I’m not without power. Even if you go back 10 years ago before my injuries and career breaks, I was knocking [people] out. I think he has to respect my power as well.

“I can't take anything for granted.
