Robby McCrorie mystery as Rangers keeper picks up international booking before first Scotland cap

Robby McCrorrie has found himself in the book for Scotland before he has found himself on the pitch.

The Rangers keeper was booked while sitting on the bench deep into injury time during Tuesday's 0-0 draw with Ukraine in Poland. Just a point was what was needed as Scotland looked to secure top spot in Nations League B1, and a point is what they got. It was not the most action packed game of football for the most part, but most importantly it got the job done.

However, back-up shotstopper McCrorie did experience some late drama in Krakow when referee Tasos Sidiropoulos noted him down in his little black book just a minute before the final whistle. The reason for the caution? It remains a mystery for now. Nevertheless, it is not a stat the keeper will be that bothered about. He now has zero caps but one card for his country.

The 24-year-old is looking to challenge veteran keeper Craig Gordon for a spot between the sticks for Steve Clarke. And he so very nearly got his chance as the Hearts skipper awaited the birth of his new baby during this international break.

It is a similar story for McCrorie at Ibrox. Gio van Bronckhorst has switched between Jon McLaughlin and Allan McGregor so far this season. McLaughlin was selected to start the first six Premiership matches for the Light Blues as well as all four of their Champions League qualifiers.

However, the goalie has since been left out of the Rangers matchday squads as well as being withdrawn from Steve Clarke's national side amid injury concerns. So, the door may be left ajar for McCrorie upon domestic return.
