Robbie Savage uses Rangers defeat to ask cheeky Celtic title question as Chris Sutton fires 'have some respect' clamp
Robbie Savage has pounced on an opening day defeat for Rangers by asking if the Premiership title race is already finished.
Celtic have opened up an instant three-point gap on their rivals on a day of contrasting fortunes, as they beat Ross County 4-2 in the curtain raiser to go top on goal difference after one game while Rangers went down 1-0 at Kilmarnock. The Light Blues have undergone a major rebuild and now will look to respond by beating Servette in a Champions League third round qualifier first leg midweek.
The early setback was enough for pundit Savage to bring it up on his and Chris Sutton's 606 phone-in show, and in his opening remarks, the former midfielder asked 'Chris, is the title over already?' but the former Celtic striker had some bemusement in response. He said: "You're not really going there are you? Rangers weren't fantastic on the plastic at Kilmarnock, they lost. Difficult pitch and Celtic won."
Savage then went back in with 'is the title over' and his co-presenter pulled no punches in his response. He added: "Don't be silly. Have a bit of respect for Rangers, Rob."
Next up for Celtic in the league is a trip to Aberdeen next Sunday. Once their European clash with Swiss opposition is over, Rangers host Livingston at Ibrox before the second leg.
