Rob Holding sent off after the most brainless challenge on Son in nightmare half v Spurs

Arsenal went into their Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday evening knowing a win would secure them a return to the Champions League.

A loss, though, would mean Spurs close the gap to just one-point with two games remaining.

There was so much riding on the game for the Gunners and they started well. They were by far the best team during the opening 15 minutes.

But things fell apart – and rapidly – for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Spurs were given a penalty when Cedric floored Son inside the box. Harry Kane stepped up and made no mistake from the spot.

Things then went from bad to worse after Rob Holding was sent off.

Holding was given a yellow card in the 26th minute after dragging Son down.

He then floored Son with a reckless shoulder charge to the head seven minutes later and was sent off.

It was a truly brainless challenge and you can view it below…

Gary Neville, commentating on the game for Sky Sports, couldn’t believe what he had just seen.

“What is he doing? What is he doing? WHAT IS HE DOING?! Oh my goodness….” He said in shock.

Arsenal’s task of turning the game around got even harder shortly after when Kane netted his second of the game as he headed home from close range.

It seems the race for the fourth and final Champions League berth is still very much alive.
