Rivers United promise to surpass previous record

River United

Nigeria’s only surviving team in continental championships, Rivers United, have promised to surpass their previous record in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Pride of Rivers crashed out at the quarterfinal of the competition last season, losing out to Yanga Sports of Tanzania. But they have qualified for the group stage of the championship this term.

At the group stage draw for this year’s competition held last Friday, the Nigerian side were placed in Group C alongside Club Africain, Dream FC and APC Lobito.

Speaking on the opponents, Rivers United captain, Nyima Nwagua, has said that their target is to surpass previous record. Nwagua, a former Kano Pillars striker, said they would not underrate any team in the group.

“It is a good group for us, and we are not going to underrate anybody. We cannot write off any team because everyone wants to go further.

“We, at Rivers United, are very focused, and our target now is how we get past our previous record.

“The team is working hard now to see how we are going to qualify from the group,” he said.
