Rising Lyon star 'targeted' by Celtic as Rodgers offers glimpse inside talks with £7m man - Parkhead news bulletin

Celtic are said to be keen on a permanent deal in January for rising Lyon star Mahamadou Diawara, who is frustrated at his lack of gametime.

Diawara was linked back in the summer but the deal didn't come to pass, the 19-year-old staying at Lyon while Brendan Rodgers pivoted to other targets like Arne Engels and Luke McCowan. But L'Equipe say that his 'demands' for regular first-team football haven't been met since - and that's led to a frustration among the teenager who could look to force a move.

They say he has spoken to the club multiple times about it and that he is 'annoyed' he isn't playing more. And they add that the idea of a permanent exit in January is 'gaining ground' - with Celtic well-placed to offer him more gametime than he is currently getting, albeit he would be far from first choice with the impressive midfield depth currently available to Rodgers. On Celtic's end, a six month loan with an option to buy appears the most likely scenario, especially since the France U19 cap still has three-and-a-half years to run on his deal.

Rodgers meanwhile has offered a glimpse into a chat he had with £7m defender Auston Trusty shortly before the defender signed for Celtic. The boss was speaking ahead of Tuesday's massive Champions League clash with Dinamo Zagreb and was discussing their ambitions in the competition, knowing three points would almost certainly be enough to guarantee a playoff spot with two games to spare.
