Rishabh Pant fires fastest century by an Indian wicketkeeper in Test cricket

The quickfire ton from Rishabh is now the fastest by an Indian wicketkeeper in Test cricket.

The 24-year-old broke MS Dhoni's record of a 93-ball century that came against Pakistan back in 2006. India were in all sorts of troubles and were struggling at 64 for three in 23rd over in the morning session when Rishabh came into bat in at No.5. India then lost Virat Kohli (11) in the 25th over (India were 71 for 4 at that stage) as the team's downslide continued. Rishabh then played a counter-attacking knock, taking on the England pacers. Pant especially went after England spinner Jack Leach, smacking him to all corners of the park.

A 100-plus partnership with Ravindra Jadeja steadied the Indian innings as Rishabh raised his fifth Test ton in the the 58th over with a quick couple of runs. Rishabh now has the third fastest ton scored by an Indian outside Asia after Virender Sehwag (79 balls vs West Indies in 2006) and Mohd. Azharuddin (88 balls vs England in 1990) The 24-year-old, on Day 1, also became the youngest wicketkeeper-batsman in the history of Test cricket to reach the landmark of 2,000 runs.
