Rio Ferdinand says Ralf Rangnick has already solved biggest Manchester United problem

Rio Ferdinand is hoping to see further Manchester United improvements after Ralf Rangnick finally addressed his biggest problem at Old Trafford.

A return to Premier League duty awaits for United tonight when they make the short trip to Burnley (8pm).

They do so in fourth position amid what is shaping up to be an intense battle for Champions League qualification, but Rangnick and his men also crashed out of the FA Cup on Friday night.

It means their only hope of silverware this season remains in the marquee European competition.

However, while Ferdinand expected more against Middlesbrough before the penalty shoot-out defeat, he thinks Rangnick has now got the right foundations in place.

Speaking on the latest episode of his Vibe With Five podcast, Ferdinand said: "I know what you're saying it's Man United against Middlesbrough, but it's where Man United are now.

"Man United with their reputation and history suggests something different - but you have got to take that away right now. The cup always throws up upsets. It's standard."

Ferdinand added: "We all do [expect more], definitely. Ronaldo misses a penalty. Bruno misses a good chance. You could name other players.

"That's an area they have got to improve on. I think they understand that. It's where they're at. You are sitting there for any game, at the moment, and I'm not sure what they are going to do.
