Rio Ferdinand explains why Man City have Premier League title race edge over Liverpool FC

Rio Ferdinand has shared his verdict on the Premier League title race as Manchester City attempt to secure their fourth crown in just five seasons.

Having looked as though they were going to run away with the league at one stage, Pep Guardiola's side have seen a relentless Liverpool team hack away at their lead. However, former Manchester United captain turned BT Sport pundit Ferdinand thinks City hold one advantage over their rivals that could see them come out on top.

He said: "I think momentum is always key, especially at the turn of the year. You get to the back end of the season, the trophies are being handed out and it's about that momentum and who is driving through and picking up points on a consistent basis and you can see the confidence.

"You can see that within this Liverpool team and you feel the fear in other teams when they come up against them with how they play and the way that they gain that momentum."

When pressed to name his favourite for the title, Ferdinand added: "Against anyone else, they (Liverpool) are the favourites, but because Manchester City have that experience, because they have been here time and time again and with Pep Guardiola, they are the favourites for me, but only just."
