Rio Ferdinand explains why Casemiro will be ‘fuming’ with Man United line-up snub vs Leicester

Rio Ferdinand says Casemiro will be “fuming” not to have started against Leicester tonight. The Brazilian made his Manchester United debut in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Southampton following his switch from Real Madrid, coming on as a second-half substitute.

The 30-year-old has been brought in to fill the void at defensive midfield. Many United fans would have hoped to see him named in Erik ten Hag’s starting XI at the King Power Stadium, but Casemiro started on the bench for a second consecutive game.

Explaining the decision, Ten Hag said : "The last two games, we've played quite well and so I want to give them a chance for this game as well. It doesn't say nothing for the future, we will bring players in.

"We have many games, so we will rotate. We have to go from game to game and keep going."

Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand suggested why Casemiro may not be happy with this decision. “He will be fuming that he is not starting, because all top players want to play every minute of every game,” he said.

“But Ten Hag said that in the window they have bought the right players in the right areas, and he is certainly one of those.”

Ten Hag named an unchanged line-up to the one that took on Southampton. Scott McTominay retained his position in the centre of the park alongside Christian Eriksen with Bruno Fernandes playing just ahead. With Anthony Martial injured, Marcus Rashford leads the line with Cristiano Ronaldo - who will not be leaving before deadline day - benched for a third game in a row.
