Rio Ferdinand delivers verdict on Manchester United's summer transfer window

Former centre-back Rio Ferdinand has hailed Manchester United's summer recruitment drive as they edge closer to wrapping up the signing of Rasmus Hojlund.

The Denmark international is on the cusp of becoming United's third signing of the transfer window after the club reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign the 20-year-old last weekend. The Reds have agreed an overall package with the Italian club worth £72million, £64m of which will be paid up front.

Hojlund, who scored ten goals in 34 games for Atalanta last season, arrived in the UK on Tuesday afternoon and United hope to get the deal wrapped up by the weekend. He is poised to follow in the footsteps of Andre Onana and Mason Mount, who have already sealed moves to M16 this summer.

Onana, who has succeeded David de Gea as United's first-choice goalkeeper, and Mount, who adds a freshness to the club's midfield options, are expected to become regular starters for Erik ten Hag. Hojlund, too, is expected to follow suit and spearhead United's attack.

"What I'm really pleased about is the transfer window," Ferdinand told talkSPORT. "It has been decisive, it has been efficient and they have been effective in that they have gone for particular players.
