Rio Ferdinand claims only one signing has improved at Manchester United in the last 10 years

Rio Ferdinand has claimed Bruno Fernandes is the only signing to have enhanced his reputation at Manchester United in the last decade.

United’s dismal season hit another low on Saturday as their top-four hopes were effectively ended following their 1-0 defeat at Everton. They now sit six points behind Tottenham in fourth, with their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League all but over.

The failure to secure a place at Europe’s top table will come as a big blow ahead of what is set to be a huge summer for the club. With a new permanent manager arriving, United could be in store for a major rebuild.

Erik ten Hag is tipped to become the new United boss, having been interviewed for the role last month. However, there is growing speculation over his arrival, with suggestions he wants more power in order to avoid any further transfer mistakes.

United’s dealings in the transfer market have been heavily criticised over the years, with the club having spent vast amounts of money only to fall further behind their rivals. Speaking on his Vibe With FIVE podcast, Ferdinand slammed his former club’s business.

“I just feel that, when you look at it, Man United – you can talk about training grounds and all that stuff – but please, you’ve got to get the football stuff right,” Ferdinand said.
